Q: What are the benefits of Driver Education? Can't I just take private lessons?
A: Students will receive an MV-285 (Course Completion Certificate). This provides an insurance reduction to students who qualify; and a Class D license at age 17 upon successfully passing the NY State road test and submitting their MV-285 to DMV. Private lessons do not give the same benefits as driver education. Without taking Driver Education, a student will not receive a Class D license until their 18th birthday.
Q: I lost my completion certificate (MV-285). How can I get a replacement?
A: All original and duplicate MV 285s are issued by the program you attended, not by the driving school. Please contact them to obtain replacement.
